We believe our continued success at the present time is because of the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He has allowed us to be a family that works together through the years and blessed us beyond measure in so many ways.  Our family has a strong faith foundation that has continued to each generation.

Ephesians 2:8
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God."

Matthew 22:37-39
"Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.'  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it:  'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "

John 3:16-17
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Company History

How it was all started...
Shoaf Septic Tank Service was founded in 1966 by the hard working farmer and concrete worker, James Carlton Shoaf (nickname "Cotton").  He worked for his uncle, Henry J. Shoaf, in the 1950's as a laborer/driver at Shoaf Coal and Sand in Mocksville, NC.  It was the long hours, day and night, and 3 different jobs "Cotton" was working that he developed a vision of his own, to start making precast concrete septic tanks.

James Carlton purchased a 900 gallon septic tank form made by Dwiggins Welding and set it up behind his house in Lexington, NC. James would work all day with his uncle at the ready mix concrete plant and afterwards batch up concrete into the 2 yard mixer, bring it home to pour the form at night and returned it when getting to work the next morning.  James' oldest son Jimmy would put in hours of hard labor every day after school by getting the form ready to help his father start a small business from scratch.  "It wasn't as easy as it is now", says Jimmy.  "I would crawl up under the forms, beat and beat to get the hardened concrete loose from between the hinges, wind an ole' steel crank (counter clockwise) to break the forms apart, brush oil on the forms to prevent concrete from sticking, and then wind the crank back (clockwise) to pull the forms back together."

The very first tank James made was sold for $60.00 and delivered to Davie County, North Carolina.  Word got around and folks from Davidson, Davie, and surrounding counties would soon find out "Cotton" was making septic tanks.  He decided to invest in a 800 gallon and 1,000 gallon tank form to offer different sizes of tanks to his customers.  When he made the decision to buy more forms, business steadily started to increase and he found himself having more work than he could keep up with. James stopped working with his uncle and at his other two jobs, to devote more time to his business.

It wasn't long after, that his wife, Virginia, would start answering the phone, taking orders and doing bookkeeping for the company.  Jimmy would deliver tanks to customers, as well as helping on the yard with his younger brother Dennis pull tanks out and get the forms ready to pour each day.  Both sons agree, "it was tough work" but our father told us "we had to work hard to make a name for ourselves."

And made a name for themselves is exactly what they did.  On March 1, 1990 James C. Shoaf formed a corporation, changing the name to Shoaf Precast Septic Tank, Inc.  With a highly recommended reputation for quality products and superior level of customer service the Shoaf family set their goal to become an industry leader in the septic tank industry.

June 1, 1998 James and Virginia turned the business over to their sons, Jimmy and Dennis.  Now, after 51 years from start-up, Shoaf Precast, Inc. is recognized as one of the top leaders in the precast industry, specializing in wastewater and septic system solutions. Shoaf Precast has grown to offer a full line of traffic (H/20 and HS/20), non-traffic, underground utility and storm water products.  By modernizing production techniques Shoaf Precast, Inc has maintained leadership in competitive pricing and superior products.

TESTIMONALS

"AQWA is very careful about the people we do work with. While that doesn't always win us a bunch of friends amongst every supplier or installer out there...frankly we don't care. What we care about is long term great performance as well as outstanding customer service. Our treatment systems get held to the highest standard. Therefore, we require watertight tanks...we don't want to be treating groundwater. With that said, Shoaf Precast is one of most valued suppliers. The guys at Shoaf make terrific products, but more importantly to us, they provide outstanding customer service. AQWA sells some very sophisticated systems and there are times we have a need for components to be built in a very specific configuration. In those situations as well as with their standard septic and pump tanks, Shoaf has always delivered and never disappointed. They have always stood behind their products and we look forward to working together for many more years. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation."
